2010
Boxer Information
Here
is what will be happening over the next couple of months.
You
may train at any gym you want.
If
you chose to train at the Garland gym, coaches are available M-F,
5 to 8.
Open
sparring is on Tuesday and Friday nights between the hours of 5 and 8.
The
gym is open M-F.
You
can just walk in and work out anytime Monday thru Friday, 8am
to 8pm.
Coaches
are only available in the evenings.
There
will be a coach available Monday thru Friday, noon to
1pm.
Morning
classes will be available but hours will be determined on a weed to week
basis.
For
extended gym hours please contact LT
David Swavey, his office is at the Garland gym or you can email him at swavey@ci.garland.tx.us,
If
you chose to train at another location, please explain to them you are training
for the 2010 Guns and Hoses. A lot of the gyms are working with us and
will allow you to train there free of charge. Each gym receives $100 for
each fighter they
train that boxes the night of October 23.
Each
boxer will be allowed to bring one coach. Your coach must be registered by
USA Boxing to work inside of the boxing ring. In your registration packet
there is a form to fill out with the gym's name, coach’s name, and registration
number. I'll up date you if a clinic is available if your coach is not
certified.
I'll
be mailing out your registration paperwork this week. Please fill it out
ASAP and return it to me.
In
the registration packet there will be a form for you to sign accepting the
match. If any of the information on it is wrong please let me know
ASAP. It will have the weight class you stated you were going to box in
with your approximate weight. If at any time during your training this
changes you will need to let me know. I'll contact your opponent to verify
his weight at that time. This event is sanctioned by USA Boxing and they
do adhere to the weight classes.
- If
you are 35 or older you are required to have had an eye exam by an ophthalmologist,
not an optometrist
within the past 5 years. This sometimes takes a while to get an
appointment so you may want to start looking for one in your area. If
you don't have eye insurance this can be a little expensive.
A lot of guys have talked to ones in their area and have been able to get the
doctor to donate it. If you are having a problem with getting an
appointment, please call me ASAP.
- If
you are 35 or older
you will also be required to have had a physical within the past year.
If you have not had this done we do have a doctor who will do it for you free
of charge. His information will be included in your registration packet.
- If
you are 45 or older
you will be required to have a stress test within the past 5 years. We do
have a doctor who will do this for you free of charge. Someone will be
contacting you to step up an appointment.
- I
will be emailing you a personal information sheet. You may either email
it back to me or print it and mail it.
- Entrance
music - each song will only be used once. The first one to request that
song will get it. You will be informed if someone has already chosen
the same song and ask to pick another one.
When
you and your opponent have completed all your registration paperwork you will be
added to the October 23 bout sheet. This will determine the order of the
matches for that night. Special consideration will be given to the guys
that have to have the eye exam and stress test. The faster you complete
your paperwork the earlier you box that night.
Please
be advised if your opponent drops out of the match due to injury or personal
reasons you will no longer have a match. I'll contact you if this
happens
