Ron Hewitt was a wonderful
man who blessed our alumni with his friendship and dedication. He served several
years on the alumni board as a director and one term as Vice President. He was
very active in our alumni, which may have been slightly driven by his pride for
his son David, who is one of our Garland officers...but really, it was the pride
he had in all of our officers.
Ron was a regular at the monthly meetings. You could
always see him counting heads to make sure his attendance sheet was accurate.
Ron kept a thorough database for our membership, as he was the Excel
professional.
Ron enjoyed
participating in all our activities. For several years, he would show up early
to the CPA Drive & Shoots to take candid photos throughout the day. He
wanted to capture the excitement as the class shot bullets at silhouettes and
squealed the tires in a patrol car. He especially enjoyed the opportunities to
help with the training scenarios for the GPD recruits in the academy. He was
there to help teach and encourage these young new officers.
I’m going to miss him tremendously as I know a lot of you
will too. I know I’m a better person for knowing him. His ability to be a role
model to his friends and acquaintances seemed to be effortless. Through him, I
have come to know his beautiful wife, Sheila, and witnessed what a wonderful,
strong family bond he has with his 2 children and 3 grandchildren. He was a very
committed Christian and I remember him saying on several occasions, “God,
Family, Work.” This was his life, his priorities.
With that said, I would like to put a card or booklet
together for his wife and family with sentiments from alumni members. If you
would like to be included, please reply to this email (by Sunday 7/25) and we
will pay tribute to a man who truly made a difference.
