Police Chief Steven K. Fleming worked with the Gainesville Police Department for 22 years, advancing to Corporal in 1997 and earning the rank of Sergeant a year later. He was promoted to Captain in 2003 and earned the rank of department Chief in 2008. He graduated from the Arlington Police Academy and 1990, which began his career serving his community with pride and honor.

Chief Fleming and his lovely wife of 24 years, Kimberly, had a beautiful daughter, Maegan, who filled his life with joy and pride each day. He was a member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge 210, the Optimist Club, and a devoted member of his church. Chief Fleming was a true outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting, fishing, and frequent trips to his family property in Junction, Texas. He is remembered by those close to him for his devotion to others and his desire to always better his community.

On Friday November 1, 2013, Police Chief Steven Keith Fleming passed away from injuries he sustained a week prior. He had fallen from a ladder at the police department’s evidence building and was transported to Medical Center of Plano. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly; daughter, Maegan; mother, Barbara and husband David; brother, Jimmy; and in-laws, Jack and Janet Hunter. He was preceded in death by his father, Lemuel, in 2003.
